The Role

Our client has an immediate need for a Vice President of Finance who will own and drive all aspects of the accounting and financial operations.  The company is a rapidly growing marketplace/SaaS company with a clear vision and line of sight to expanding market opportunities.

Reporting to the President, the VP of Finance will be primarily responsible for managing accounting operations (AR, AP, Payroll, Tax, and Treasury) and producing timely and accurate financial information and reports for the Executive Team to aid in their decision-making process.  Strong technical accounting skills, ability to lead and coach a team (Senior Accountant, Staff Accountant, AR, and AP), and ability to quickly adapt, problem solve and determine process and technology improvement solutions are essential in supporting the rapid growth of the company.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the timely and accurate maintenance of the financial books and records of the company in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure a strong accounting and operational control environment.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports with a focus on improving and optimizing the department’s systems, processes, and reporting.
  • Drive the monthly close with an adherence to a close calendar. Identify key areas for improvement to decrease the days to close.
  • Prepare a monthly- financial reporting package to senior management and the Board including key insights and drivers of variance to budget.         
  • Lead continuous process improvements including automation and optimization of the finance and accounting systems.
  • Oversee the internal audit and external audit processes, including quarterly reviews and the year-end audit. Coordinate and ensure compliance with the external auditors.
  • Oversight of tax preparation and filings, and adherence to sales tax and use taxes rules.
  • Responsible for Treasury operations, monthly debt reporting and borrowing base preparation.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements and related schedules for lender reporting including the compilation and organization of supporting documentation.
  • Lead the research into market trends of key unit-level metrics for a SaaS/Marketplace company and establish internal policies to measure against and report back on the company’s tracking against them.
  • Lead financial planning and analysis for the company, including the budgeting process.
  • Serve as the financial advisor to the President and executive team for strategic planning purposes.

 

Qualifications

  • High integrity and a passion for the company’s mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. CPA is required.
  • 10+ years of total accounting experience including at least 4 years as a Controller or Assistant Controller. Experience within the staffing/professional services, SaaS, or financial payments verticals is preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Experience with NetSuite preferred
  • 4+ years of cumulative experience with full-cycle GAAP accounting and direct responsibility for managing the monthly close and preparing financial reports. Experience in VC/ PE backed companies preferred.
  • Experience with QuickBooks or QuickBooks Online preferred.
  • Experience in leading and developing an accounting team in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. Highly organized.
  • Collaborative working style and ability to work cross-functionally internally and externally.
  • Structured thinker: Comfort with numbers, details and ambiguity.
  • Experience building and improving internal controls, policies and processes.
  • Experience being a part of an ERP systems conversion preferred.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and ability to quickly adapt, problem solve and determine solutions to complex accounting and operational challenges.
  • Ability to understand and monitor compliance with industry standards (ex. ASC 606) and implement required changes.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; creating an atmosphere in which timely information flows smoothly through the organization. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely.
