The Role: Controller
Location: Austin, Texas

The Role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is primarily responsible for the financial operations of the company
Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting systems to provide timely and accurate information to management, investors and lenders.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable regulations.
- Run queries and reports using data from the company’s proprietary fulfillment systems for revenue recognition and analysis.
- External Audit. Serve as principal liaison to external auditors.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor performance against budget and forecast, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
- Provide insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Accounting Operations:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, and other financial transactions.
- Manage cash and prepare weekly cash position reports and 13-week cash forecasts.
- Supervise commission calculations, reports, and payments to sales personnel.
- Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including timely filing of tax returns and payments.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and other financial stakeholders.
- Assess and mitigate financial risks, implementing controls and procedures to safeguard company assets.
- Other:
- Identify trends and opportunities for cost reduction or revenue enhancement.
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as requested by management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
- Progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least three years in a supervisory capacity.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, analysis, and forecasting.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Experience working in a dynamic environment.
- Attention to detail and accuracy, with a commitment to meeting deadlines.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and financial software (MS Dynamics GP, Intacct, NetSuite).
- Preferred candidates will have experience in the following:
- ERP migration
- Fulfilling reporting requirements of a private-equity backed company
- Process reengineering and improvement, including automation and outsourcing
- Implementation of policies and procedures
