HireBetter’s client is an Austin based Non-profit Retail organization with 37 locations in Central Texas.  They also provide customized education and career training services to the Austin community.

The Role

The Vice President of Retail Operations is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational guidance for all of our client’s retail programs. The Vice President of Retail is a critical leader in driving the strategy and execution of all retail operations, monitoring and achieving performance goals across revenue, targets, and Team Member engagement; driving adjustments to strategies and tactics as necessary to consistently achieve or exceed targets.

Responsibilities

  • Create an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Lead, grow, and direct the management and development of the Retail Services Division, including all retail locations, new goods program, E-Commerce, and Supply Chain.
  • Guide retail leadership teams to develop district-specific strategies and priorities to continually support our mission.
  • Monitor and achieve operational performance goals. Drive adjustments to strategies and tactics as necessary to achieve goals.
  • Ensure all stores consistently achieve revenue goals through effective use of short and long-term planning and expense control.
  • Deliver consistent high standards of customer experience in stores.
  • Partner closely with Real Estate to identify new store and relocation opportunities and manage real-estate portfolio to achieve growth goals.
  • Support company-wide initiatives with direct leadership participation.
  • Build annual operational plans and budgets
  • Collaborate cross-company to ensure support and execution of all operational strategies.
  • Meet budgetary obligations in support of organizational mission.
  • Research, create, and execute continuous improvement strategies that align with organizational mission, vision, and values.
  • Support, grow and maintain an engaged workforce.
  • Responsible for preparation of the retail and E-Commerce divisional budgets
  • Coordinate the activities of, and resolve difference between, supervised division/departments/regions.
  • Recruit, select, develop, evaluate, and counsel employee(s).
  • Work collaboratively with the Workforce Development Division to further the mission.
  • Create a strong, mutually supportive work environment and culture where people can do their best.
  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years multi-unit retail experience, in a leadership capacity.
  • Experience in Thrift is required.
  • Creative and flexible problem-solving skills.
  • Proven experience in establishing vision and goals; developing strategic plans and leading cross-functional teams in accomplishing key strategic initiatives.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a dynamic business landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and projects, to prioritize, and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Ability to think strategically, define business opportunities, collect, interpret, and analyze abstract information and create strategic value-added solutions.
  • Establish trust and inspire others.
  • Ability to embrace, facilitate, and drive change through the operations.
  • Must possess strong leadership and coaching skills and the ability to capitalize and apply those skills.
  • Ability to consolidate information from various sources including feedback from others, to reach sound decisions.

  • Establish models and drives accountability. Provides management oversight and support, establishing a culture of accountability.
  • Use business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgement in the solution of problems and/or the pursuit of business opportunities.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and talk or hear.
  • The ability to cope with and tolerate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
