Title: Director of Pharmacy
Location: Remote (except for CA, NJ, NY, WA)
The Director of Pharmacy is the single-point owner for pharmacy implementations and operational execution across our client’s national pharmacy footprint. This role exists to absorb and scale leadership bandwidth during a period of rapid growth, ensuring that pharmacies are implemented, stabilized, and operated consistently while executive leadership remains focused on growth and strategy. This role is not a policy-setting or centralized compliance function; rather, it is an execution, accountability, and orchestration role that ensures work is completed correctly through the appropriate teams.
End-to-End Pharmacy Implementation Ownership (Primary Accountability)
Own and drive all pharmacy implementations from approval through go-live and stabilization. Accountable for implementation timelines, readiness, and execution quality across multiple concurrent pharmacy builds. Direct and coordinate site readiness activities, including staffing models, workflows, SOP readiness, and operational hand off. Serve as the owner for implementation outcomes, even where execution is completed by other teams.
Operational Oversight & Performance Accountability
Maintain accountability for operational performance, inventory discipline, staffing efficiency, and financial results at the pharmacy level. Ensure pharmacies operate within approved budgets and meet performance expectations. Provide operational decision-making and escalation resolution across all pharmacy sites.
Leadership of Regional & Functional Teams
Directly lead Regional Pharmacy Operations Managers, ensuring consistent execution across geographies. Provide leadership and accountability for pharmacy operations managers and site leadership through regional structures. Act as senior, client-facing pharmacy leader when escalation or executive presence is required.
Systems, Workflow & Standardization Leadership
Own accountability for workflow standardization and operational consistency across pharmacy locations. Partner with technology, regulatory, and quality teams to ensure systems and workflows support scalable operations. Lead operational readiness for technology changes.
Client & Executive Alignment
Serve as the operational pharmacy leader during client onboarding and escalations. Ensure executive alignment and readiness at go-live and during stabilization phases.
Qualifications
- Licensed Pharmacist (PharmD required).
- 8–10+ years of progressive pharmacy experience.
- Strong retail pharmacy background (must-have).
- Proven experience opening independent pharmacies end-to-end (critical).
- Demonstrated leadership of multi-site, geographically dispersed teams.
Preferred Experience
- Mail-order pharmacy experience.
- Light specialty pharmacy exposure.
- Experience managing high-growth, implementation-heavy environments.
