HireBetter has been retained by a dynamic and innovative consumer packaged goods company based in Austin to lead their search for a Senior Accountant.

The Role

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Senior Accountant is a hands-on role working within a highly entrepreneurial environment.  The position will play a pivotal role in the organization’ s operations and future growth initiatives by providing oversight of the day to day accounting function as well as timely and thoughtful analysis on a company-wide and regional level. Duties include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, account balance reconciliations, financial statement preparation, margin management, inventory control, working with vendors and co-packers, tax preparation assistance with the company’ s outside CPA firm, and advising company management on financial matters. The ideal candidate will be a CPA and possess the skills and experience necessary to support the company in the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the organization’ s accounting and finance practices, providing data to help drive key operational decisions.

  • Direct the monthly close process and the preparation and timely issuance of the organization' s monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts including monthly account balance reconciliation and timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Support the Vice President of Operations and other company leadership by providing timely, accurate, and targeted financial information on a monthly basis accompanied by the appropriate level of in depth variance analysis and interpretation necessary to add value to senior staff, department heads and investors in making sound business decisions
  • Support the Vice President of Operations in developing, implementing and maintaining an effective and efficient system of internal controls including making provisions for appropriate computer application systems necessary to maintain proper records and facilitate a tone of integrity and effective compliance with local/state/federal/industry regulatory matters
  • Mange accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Manage the annual audit process including coordinating with the auditors to ensure timely resolution of issues and a well-organized and efficient process
  • Manage federal and state tax compliance and reporting, including coordinating with outside CPA firm in timely and accurate filings and resolution of any related issues
  • Support company leadership in the development of the annual operating plan, budgeting and forecasting activities for the organization

  • A bachelor’ s degree in accounting
  • CPA required
  • At least five years of increasing levels of responsibility in finance and accounting; public accounting and relevant CPG industry experience is preferred
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills and proven ability to coordinate with outside tax and audit professionals
  • Experience working in a co-manufacturing environment with an understanding of all aspects of inventory accounting including cost, bill of materials, purchasing, inventory builds, inventory reconciliations, inventory in transit, variances, obsolescence, month end cutoff, and finished goods inventory accounting
  • Experience with providing analysis that drives business decisions
  • Experience working with multiple geographies or locations
  • A self-starter with the ability to function autonomously in a fast paced, high growth environment
  • Advanced computer skills including accounting software proficiency (QuickBooks experience a plus, but not required), Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Financial analysis experience is a plus
