The Role:  Senior Vice President of Sales

Our client is a nationally accredited and recognized provider of pre-hire intelligence including background screening, drug testing and onboarding solutions.

The Role

In order to support the planned expansive growth through both acquisition and organic efforts, our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Vice President of Sales to provide leadership, direction, and resource stewardship to the organization’ s sales function. As the organization’ s most senior sales leader, the SVP of Sales is accountable for overall sales organization performance, the profitable achievement of sales organization goals and for aligning sales objectives with the company’ s business strategy. The SVP will be a critical member of the senior management team and heavily involved with setting strategy and driving operating plans across the base business and in integration of all acquired entities.


Senior Management Team and Overall Company Integration
  • Achieve assigned organizational growth objectives for sales, profits, volume, product mix, and other strategic goals
  • Support the achievement of strategic objectives critical to other functional areas within the firm
  • Align the sales organization’ s objectives with firm business strategy through active participation in corporate strategic planning, sales strategy development, forecasting, sales resource planning, and budgeting
  • Provide managerial leadership and work closely with technology leadership to ensure technology initiatives are implemented consistent with firm technology strategy
  • Partner with operational leaders including implementation and operational fulfillment to successfully engage, implement and launch new clients
  • Manages sales product priority list and works with internal operations and IT teams to plan and execute required integration and IT resources
  • Key Customer and prospect integration
  • Establish and maintain productive peer-to- peer relationships with key customers and prospects, acts as “ Executive Sponsor” to key sales customers

Sales Strategy and Structure
  • Develop optimum sales team structure and focus, with consideration for geographical, industry-vertical, and enterprise-size coverage
  • Create effective team strategy for maximizing new-customer bookings, existing-customer “ whitespace” development, and channel partner management
  • Develop strategy for complete support system needed to maximize leverage of sales professionals accountable for driving sales bookings
  • Develop infrastructure to effectively manage sales professionals across multiple locations

Sales Force Management
  • Ongoing development and recruitment of sales team members to support company growth goals; Activity management and coaching to assist high-performing sales professionals to be most effective
  • Work with CEO and executive leadership team to define and lead sales organization change initiatives by continuously assessing the need for organizational change, championing change initiatives, and removing obstacles impeding constructive organizational change
  • Funnel management for effective deployment of sales professionals’ time and focus, as well as providing guidance to the financial team on future bookings and revenue expectations
  • Lead learning and development initiatives impacting the sales organization and provide stewardship of sales and sales management talent

  • Manage and guide the marketing team to identify highest-potential market segments and requirement to effectively compete
  • Develop effective campaigns and other outreach programs that optimize our ability to drive lead volume with highest rate of conversion to qualified opportunities

Product Line and Solutions Input
  • Work with CEO, product-line management, and marketing to provide critical customer input to inform future products and solutions
  • Remain in tune with competitive activity to inform organization of critical gaps in capability

Financial Integration
  • Work closely with Finance and Accounting Team in development of plans that the company can adequately fund in aggressive growth mode
  • Provide high-confidence projections on bookings and revenue to allow the company to adequately manage resources across operations and finance to support the plan

  • Proven cycles of developing sales teams and organizations to achieve aggressive growth in profitable environments
  • Experience in closing high six and seven figure background screening deals
  • Minimum five years in a senior sales position as part of an executive leadership team
  • Minimum five years of HCM/Background Screening sales experience
  • Evidence of multiple years of working in a position directly accountable for sales (prior to management) with clear progression in capabilities and increase in year-over-year revenue growth
  • Deep understanding of the background screening space as a component of the bigger HCM market
  • Proven network in the background screening space, in support of identifying opportunities for key customers, as well as for accelerated ramp-up in recruiting of sales professionals
  • Experience integrating sales teams in an acquisitive environment a plus
  • Minimum four-year college degree from an accredited institution
