The Role

We are currently searching for an Unit Accounting Manager for our client.  The Unit Accounting Manager will be responsible for overseeing a team in a large company where they will have to quickly establish themselves as an integral team member through building relationships, making impactful decisions for the unit, being patient in a fast-paced stressful environment during a time of change.  The Unit Accounting Manager will be experienced with complex processes and accruals.  A successful candidate will be comfortable working with upper management while supporting this highly visible area of the company.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and assist with performing the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process  and completing  variance  analysis for the company. 
  • Comfortable with technical and complex accounting matters with the ability to research and generate technical memos.
  • Develops and implements procedures to ensure the quality and timeliness of work produced by the team
  • Manage performance and ensure ongoing development of staff.  Assist direct reports in the management and development of their staff.  This includes setting goals for the department and staff as well as preparing and conducting annual performance reviews with each direct report and mentoring each individual.
  • Ensure that accruals, reserves, and management estimates related to various key accounts in the unit area are properly calculated and supported and that any related issues are resolved in a timely manner
  • Review reconciliations and account analysis performed by staff members
  • Develop and implement all GAAP, legal and regulatory compliance to support business needs.
  • Review and enhance analysis and analytical processes and controls
  • Ensure effective working relationships with operations and other key business partners
  • Manage aspects of external and internal audit activities

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’ s degree in accounting or finance
  • Five plus years of experience with two plus years as a manager
  • Experience working in a fast-paced company environment
  • Self-motivated, mature, patient and versatile
  • Resourcefulness with a “ can-do” results-oriented attitude to challenges and problem solving
  • Experience in a public company a plus
  • Advanced  working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required
  • Financial systems conversion experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process improvements
  • Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to effectively prioritize work and manage performance of a large team
  • Expertise in the use of database tools and financial reporting packages
  • Ability to maintain composure and work under pressure with strict time constraints
