The Role:   Interim Accountant (Long-Term Contract)
Location: Austin, Texas

We are currently searching for an Interim Accountant for one of our large non-profit clients.  The Interim Accountant will work directly with the Controller and field manager to be responsible for all accounting related to two government grants.  A successful candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting including budgeting, payment processing, month-end close as well as monthly reporting.  An understanding or experience with grant accounting is a plus.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all grant accounting functions, including review and preparation of budgets as well as amendments, processing vendor payments and reimbursements, preparation of reports and documentation and monthly accruals.
  • Prepare, monitor and track work hours to ensure reported work time meets requirements of the grant; prepare payroll reports and journal entries ensuring time tracking is properly allocated.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports to issuer, as well as internal departments and stakeholders.
  • Analyze trends in budget expenditures, make recommendations for streamlining costs.
  • Review all reports related to grant and respond to inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Oversee grant compliance and processes.
  • Ensure efficiency and effectiveness in all processes.
  • Maintain calendar of grant renewals and grant reporting deadlines; provide analytical support in year-end audits, as well as audit preparation
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’ s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or closely related field
  • 3 plus years relevant accounting experience.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Excel, MS Word, Outlook and an ERP system.
  • Strong communication (verbal and written), organization and writing skills.
  • Proactive team player that is a quick learner and likes to improve processes. 
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with management and internal and external customers. 
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail, meet deadlines, and balance competing priorities
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Strong people and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, within a team environment, and with a diverse group of people
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
