The Company

HireBetter has been retained by a dynamic and innovative healthy snack food consumer packaged goods company based in South Austin to lead their search for a Controller.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (“ CFO”), the Controller will direct the organization’ s accounting and financial reporting, playing a significant role in supporting the organization’ s operations and future growth initiatives. The successful candidate will be a CPA and possess the skills and experience necessary to support the CFO in the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the organization’ s accounting and finance practices.

Responsibilities:
  • Direct the monthly close process and the preparation and timely issuance of the organization' s monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts including monthly account balance reconciliation and timely resolution of reconciling items
  • Support the CFO in providing timely, accurate, targeted financial information on a monthly basis accompanied by the appropriate level of in depth variance analysis and interpretation necessary to add value to senior staff, department heads and investors in making sound business decisions
  • Support the CFO in developing, implementing and maintaining an effective and efficient system of internal controls including making provisions for appropriate computer application systems necessary to maintain proper records and facilitate a tone of integrity and effective compliance with local/state/federal/industry regulatory matters
  • Provide leadership in developing, training and motivating the accounting/finance team including providing training and direction on accounting and financial reporting matters
  • Manage the annual audit process including coordinating with the auditors to ensure timely resolution of issues and a well-organized and efficient process
  • Manage federal and state tax compliance and reporting, including coordinating with outside CPA firm in timely and accurate filings and resolution of any related issues
  • Support the CFO in the development of the annual operating plan and budgeting and forecasting activities for the organization

Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’ s degree in accounting
  • CPA required
  • Three to five years of increasing levels of responsibility in finance and accounting; public accounting and relevant industry experience is a plus
  • Strong technical accounting and financial reporting skills and proven ability to coordinate with outside tax and audit professionals
  • Experience with accounting for finished goods inventory
  • Demonstrated ability to be a self-starter and ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast paced, high growth environment
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and presentation skills
  • Advanced computer skills including accounting software proficiency (QuickBooks experience a plus, but not required), Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Financial analysis experience is a plus
